AIKS-CITU-JCTU SEMINAR IN GUWAHATI ON CURRENT CHALLENGES

On July 6, 2019 at Guwahati, capital of Assam, a seminar was organised by Assam State Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in association with CITU and Joint Council of Trade Unions (JCTU), on the topic, “Present Political and Economic Challenges in India’. Dr Ashok Dhawale, National President of AIKS was the main speaker.

He analysed in detail the results of the 17th Lok Sabha elections and the challenges these results have posed to the secular-democratic fabric of our country and our Constitution. He also underlined that the consolidation of right-wing communal forces who are strong votaries of neo-liberal economic policies, will spell disaster to the lives of workers, peasants and all sections of working people and to the unity of our country itself.

In this context he also pointed out the regressive nature of the Union Budget placed yesterday in Parliament by the second Modi Govt.

Dr Ashok Dhawale called upon the audience to mobilise with even greater vigour the working people and the democratic masses in the resistance struggles against the anti-people socio-economic policies and the politics of communal polarisation pursued by the BJP-RSS regime.

But, he emphasised, our aim in future must not be only winning their demands, but winning the minds and hearts of the people. This can only be done by concerted and sustained political and ideological struggle, along with massive agitations on people’s issues and vastly expanding and strengthening our organisations.

The seminar was presided over by Tapan Sarma, General Secretary, CITU, Assam. Earlier Tiken Das, Secretary, Assam State Kisan Sabha explained the objectives of the seminar, which was attended by a large number of workers and peasants and especially middle class employees.

The AIKS Assam state council meeting will be held in Nagaon district on July 7-8 to chart the future course of action.
