AIKS greets peasants and workers who made the strike successful

The AIKS congratulate millions of peasants and rural workers who have come forward to participate in the agrarian strike in solidarity with the all India worker strike called by central trade unions in order to pressurise the Modi government to reverse the anti labour, anti people economic policies. Due to the agrarian strike the rural India witness large scale stoppage of agriculture activities and shops and agriculture markets remained closed. In many states, there was no traffic in vast areas of rural India. Kisan Sabha, agriculture workers union and Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan activists have come forward all over the country to make the strike a grand success.

As per the reports available at the AIKS centre agrarian strike was organised in around 23 states in varying degree. Crores of peasants and agriculture workers participated in the agrarian strike and lakhs of activists have attended protest actions like Rasta roko, demonstrations, public meetings and rallies. Thousands of activists were arrested.

Kerala and Tripura observed total hartal and entire public life has come to standstill. The strike was successful across West Bengal and activists demonstrated and organised road blockades in more than 150 blocks braving attacks from TMC goons and police. Police unleashed lathi charge and arrested hundreds of activists. In Maharashtra Rasta Roko was organised in 23 districts in which more than one lakh activists attended. Though the police arrested activists in many places they were allowed to go since there was no place to keep them. In Tamil Nadu picketing took place in 400 centres all over the state. In Bihar, road blocks organised at 67 centres in 23 districts, and government offices were picketed. In Madhya Pradesh, strike has large impact more than expected. Shops were closed at Bhopal, Gwalior, Ratlam, and many other cities. In Uttar Pradesh demonstrations were held at Bulandshahar, Etawa, Sultanpur, Agra and many other places. In Jharkhand Godda, Bokaro, East Singhbhum, Jamtara and many other districts had agrarian strike with demonstrations and road blocks. In Haryana 9 districts witnessed demonstrations in which 2000 activists participated. The shops and markets were remained closed and education institutions also did not function in many places. In Karnataka strike had a large impact with thousands of activists joining the workers in demonstrations. The Himachal Pradesh rural area observed hartal and Kisan and agriculture workers in large numbers organised demonstrations in towns and localities. In New Delhi at Parliament street workers protest rally organised in which the Kisan Sabha leaders participated and Hannan Mollah the General Secretary addressed the gathering.
