AIKS 30th Tamilnadu State Conference Begins with Massive Rally and Public Meeting at Nagapattinam

On 17 September 2022, the AIKS 30th Tamilnadu State Conference began at Nagapattinam with a massive rally and public meeting of thousands of peasants. Nagapattinam was hosting an #AIKS state conference for the first time in its nearly 80-year history. The AIKS was formed in this Kaveri delta area of the old East Thanjavur district in 1943 by the legendary peasant leader B Srinivas Rao.

The horrific Kizhvenmani massacre of 44 AIKS-led dalit agricultural workers and poor peasants by upper caste landlords took place on 25 December 1968 in this same district, 25 Km away from Nagapattinam.
The rally marched for 3 Km and it was welcomed at different places by activists of the #CITU, #AIAWU, #AIDWA, #DYFI, #SFI and the CPI-led Kisan Sabha.
The public meeting was presided over by AIKS state president V Subramanian, and it was addressed by AIKS General Secretary Hannan Mollah, President Dr Ashok Dhawale, Vice President K Balakrishnan, State General Secretary P Shanmugham, and local CPI(M) MLA Nagai Mali. AIKS Joint Secretary Vijoo Krishnan and Finance Secretary P Krishnaprasad were present on the dais.
Today was the birth anniversary of the great revolutionary social reformer and champion of the struggle against caste and gender oppression, Periyar. His statue was garlanded by Dr Ashok Dhawale, in the presence of AIKS leaders Hannan Mollah, Vijoo Krishnan, Dr Venkatesh Athreya, Dilli Babu and others.
