Telangana: ‘Steps being taken to make farming profitable’
The Telangana government was adopting a multi-pronged strategy to address various issues responsible for the plight of farmers and restore their dignity, said Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.
Replying to a short discussion on Loan waiver, Providing Minimum Support Price to agricultural produce and other issues in the Council here on Friday, he said Chief Minister already announced that the interest dues would be paid to the banks if there were any. He asked the Opposition members to provide the list of farmers whose interest dues were still pending and their accounts were not renewed.
Grilled by the Opposition why farmers’ suicides continued in the last three years if the government was farmer friendly, Mr. Srinivas Reddy reminded them that had the Congress, which ruled the State for majority part, implemented right policies, farmers would not have been in debt trap or committed suicide.
