50 THOUSAND PEOPLE LED BY CPI(M) TO LAY SIEGE TO GOVT OFFICES IN 7 TEHSILS OF THANE-PALGHAR DISTRICTS FROM MARTYRS’ DAY, OCTOBER 10
From October 10, which is observed every year as Martyrs’ Day and as the death anniversary of the legendary leader Comrade Godavari Parulekar, over 50,000 people led by the CPI(M) will lay siege to government offices in 7 tehsils in Thane-Palghar districts of Maharashtra. Class and mass fronts like the AIKS, CITU, AIDWA, DYFI and SFI will also mobilise all their strength in this struggle.
The major issues of the struggle are: Scrap projects like the Bullet Train, Express Highway and River Linking Scheme that will destroy farmers and their livelihoods; Vest forest land, varkas land, temple trust land and pasture land in the names of the cultivating peasants; Give priority to water for drinking and irrigation to the people of both districts from the huge dams in existence; and solve local problems of drought, ration, employment, education, health, pension, electricity, houses and roads. The struggle will not be withdrawn anywhere until the local demands are conceded in writing by the officials.
Along with the above demands, a concerted campaign will also be conducted during this struggle against the policies of the BJP government that have led to the back-breaking price rise in petrol, diesel, gas and other essential commodities; the alarming rise in unemployment, poverty, indebtedness and malnutrition; the Rafale fighter plane deal which is steeped in rampant corruption and crony capitalism of the Modi regime at the highest levels; and the communal and casteist atmosphere being incited all over the country.
This struggle will be led at various places by CPI(M) central committee member and AIKS national president Dr Ashok Dhawale, veteran Party leaders L B Dhangar and Lahanu Kom (ex-MP/ex-MLA), Party state secretariat members Barkya Mangat and Kisan Gujar, state committee members Ratan Budhar, Radka Kalangda, Sunil Dhanwa, Kiran Gahala, Lahani Dauda, Vinod Nikole and Laxman Dombre, district secretariat members Edward Vartha, Yashwant Ghatal, Bharat Valamba, Sudam Dhinda and Prachi Hatiwlekar, Talasari Panchayat Samiti chairperson Savita Davre and vice chairperson Vansha Dumada, Talasari Municipal Council chairperson Smita Valvi and vice chairperson Suresh Bhoye, Party district and taluka committee members, Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members and Sarpanches/Deputy Sarpanches of several villages.
This novel struggle will begin tomorrow October 10 at around 12 noon simultaneously with huge rallies of several thousands at Dahanu, Talasari, Jawhar, Vikramgad, Palghar, Wada and Shahapur, which will then lay siege to the SDO/Tehsil offices until the local demands are conceded.
We cordially invite a correspondent and photographer of your esteemed daily/TV channel/news service to cover this people’s struggle and to give it good publicity.
Thanking you,
Sincerely yours,
Dr Ashok Dhawale
