Press Statement, August 14, 2015
All India Kisan Sabha condemns the cowardly attack by TMC goons on Surjyakanta Mishra, AIKS Joint Secretary and Leader of Opposition, West Bengal as well as Biplab Majumdar, Central Kisan Committee member and other Left Front activists. The team was travelling to Udanarayanpur in Howrah District to visit the camps housing the flood affected people in the region. The attack was pre-planned; the TMC goons stopped the convoy and damaged the vehicles with the intention to intimidate and force the team to retreat.
Undeterred by the attack Surjyakanta Mishra and others went ahead with the programme and expressed solidarity with the flood affected people. Threats and intimidation cannot force us to abandon our responsibilities in times when the people are in distress. The Chief Minister and the State Government are trying to cover up their utter incompetence in dealing with the situation arising out of the floods.
AIKS and all democratic forces shall continue to carry out relief work irrespective of such attacks. We warn the TMC Government that our units will rise in protest against such cowardly acts and the people shall be mobilised against such attacks.
