AP Kisan Sabha State Workshop
The Andhra Pradesh Kisan Sabha held its state-level workshop at the Com MB Vignana Kendram, Vijayawada on June 17. It was attended by over 200 leading activists from nearly all districts. It was presided over by AP Kisan Sabha state president Y Keshav Rao.
The workshop was inaugurated by AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale. He explained the current serious agrarian challenges emanating from the neoliberal policies of the Modi-led BJP regime; outlined the growing struggles of the AIKS all over the country with special reference to the Kisan Long March in Maharashtra; and called upon the delegates to make a great success of the following calls of the AIKS – the 10 crore signature campaign, the August 9 countrywide Jail Bharo stir, the September 5 Mazdoor-Kisan Delhi Rally by the CITU-AIKS-AIAWU, and the Rs 5 crore July Fund Campaign. He also stressed on the importance of local struggles and on expanding and strengthening the AIKS organisation.
AP Kisan Sabha state general secretary P Peddi Reddy placed the burning issues before the peasants of AP as a result of the policies of the TDP state government and outlined the future tasks.
All the delegates then had a group discussion in which they decided the targets for the signature campaign, the Jail Bharo stir, the propaganda material for the same, the number of villages and mandals that will be covered, the Fund Drive and the membership campaign. The dates of the district-level workshops for finalising all the above were also decided.
The concluding session of the workshop was addressed by Secretary of the AP Tenant Farmers Union P Jamalaiah and state leaders V Krishnaiah and V Srinivas Rao. All of them called upon the delegates to bend all their efforts to ensure the success of these tasks so as to greatly strengthen the AIKS throughout the state.
The state workshop ended in the evening amidst great resolve and enthusiasm.
