AIKS demands political parties to clear their stand on farmers demands
In the context of the Murder of six farmers at Mandsaur and countrywide protest of farmers on 16th June the central leadership of all opposition political parties is requested to explain their stand on the genuine demands of the farmers who are facing acute distress on the one side and the consistent attack by the BJP led State and Central Government’s on the other.
The four demands include 1. Implement MS Swaminathan Commission recommendation of fixing MSP as 50% above cost of production to all crops and guarantee purchase centres. 2. Comprehensive loan waiver to the peasantry.3. Withdraw the anti farmer notification of the Central Government banning cattle trade in the cattle market.4. Resignation of Shivaraj Singh Chouhan from the post of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh who is responsible for murder of six farmers in Mandsaur. 5. Reverse the reduction in allocation in MNREGA.
The Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has been in sitting strike at Bhopal but the Congress led UPA2 Government that was in power till 2014 had the track record of not implementing the MS Swaminathan Commission recommendation of fixing MSP as 50% above cost of production to all crops. The Neoliberal policies implemented by the past Central Governments led by Congress are responsible for widespread suicides and indebtedness among the peasantry.
The present BJP led Central Government is continuing and intensifying the Neo liberal policies in the past three years like 100% FDI in agriculture and retail trade, E- Platform to link all agricultural produce markets in the country to facilitate cheap procurement for big traders and agro industries, introducing Model Contract farming law and entering into FTA’s to eliminate import duties on agriculture produces. The Parliament Members of the Congress currently in opposition does not oppose the above anti- farmer policies.
The central leadership of the Congress is not opposing the Government Order that ban the cattle trade inside the cattle market like it opposed the infamous Land Acquisition Ordinance. The joint opposition of all political parties in the opposition and massive joint struggles of the peasant and agriculture organizations in the leadership of Bhoomi Adhikar andolan forced the Modi Government to keep the ordinance in abeyance. The excessive Hindutva politics of the BJP-RSS combine cannot be defeated with the soft Hindutva politics of the Congress. The Chief Ministers of the Congress Led State Governments of Punjab and Meghalaya have opposed the Central Government order as anti farmer is a welcome step but the Congress leadership is failing to take firm stand against it.
On behalf of Led and democratic Farmers and agriculture workers along with the working class will organize massive protest on June 16 from Kerala to Jamu & Kashmir and Gujarat to Manipur. AIKS appeals to all progressive sections to support the strike action.
