AIKS Congratulates Farmers of Greater Noida on Unique Victory

Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) in the meeting held on 26th December, 2023 has passed certain proposals -accepting the demands of the farmers- to send for the approval of the Uttar Pradesh State Government. As per the decision 10% residential plots to be provided to all affected, deprived farmers, benefit of 33% reservation in the vending zones to be built in the city for the landless women of the villages affected by the acquisition, farmers affected by direct purchase will be recognised as Project Affected Families and 20% developed plots and employment benefits to them and Leaseback proceedings to be started immediately in 296 pending cases. As per the agreement with the farmers, it is expected that the State Government will proceed to implement the above proposals.

The allotment of 10% residential plots will benefit around17000 families with Rs.8000 crore worth land plots. AIKS congratulates the farmers for the unique victory achieved through this decision of GNIDA. The farmers of Greater Noida have been in continuous struggle on demands pending for many years. In 2023, farmers under the banner of AIKS had a 124 days long Dharna/Padav at GNIDA office facing extreme weather conditions. Thousands of farmers stayed on the road. During the agitation 33 farmers were arrested and jailed for17 days. Ultimately the authority was forced to sign an agreement but later the BJP led state government and the GNIDA breached the agreement and refused to fulfil the agreed demands. After which agitation was resumed with more participation and once again the Authority had been forced to sign agreement and now finally accepted some of the important demands and now passed in the meeting to send for the approval of the state government.

However, AIKS will further intensify the struggle for implementing all the provisions of the Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement (LARR) Act 2013. As per the said Act, employment is considered as of permanent nature in government departments or public sector units with the benefits of social security but the GNIDA has arranged employment in the private sector without any job security. The compensation received by the farmer families also is not as per the norms of LAAR 2013 and the demand for providing housing plots for landless families in the land acquisition affected area also needs to be enforced.

AIKS congratulates farmers of Greater Noida for their achievement through the long, determined, massive struggle. This struggle has filled confidence in the minds of the farmers across the country and provides inspiration to all the project affected families yet to receive the lawful adequate compensation, employment, house plot and portion of developed land. This is a victory against the corporate loot over the acquired land of the peasantry under the Modi Raj. AIKS calls upon all the victims of illegal land acquisition across India to come forward and be united to strengthen their struggle for final victory.
