AIKS Special Train from Nashik, Maharashtra, with over 5,000 Peasant Rallyists for the September 5 Rally, Reaches Delhi

The AIKS special train from Nashik, Maharashtra, carrying over 5,000 women and men rallyists, most of them Adivasi peasants from Nashik district, reached Delhi at 3 am today, September 4.

A large number of these rallyists are among the 40,000 farmers who took part in the historic Kisan Long March organised by the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha (AIKS) for seven days and one night from March 6-12, 2018, over a distance of 180 Km from Nashik to Mumbai.

The idea of booking a special train from Nashik to Delhi to Nashik for the September 5 rally was initiated and pursued by J P Gavit, AIKS former State President and seven-time and sitting MLA of the CPI(M) from the Kalwan-Surgana assembly seat in Nashik district.

The total cost of booking this special train is Rs 34 lakh. For meeting this huge expense, an appeal was made to peasants to contribute Rs 700 per head for the return journey. Over 5,000 peasants from Surgana, Kalwan, Peth, Dindori, Chandwad, Tryambakeshwar and other tehsils made their contribution enthusiastically to make this novel endeavour a success.

Apart from J P Gavit, among those leading the rallyists are AIKS State Office Bearers Sunil Malusare, Subhash Chaudhari, Savliram Pawar and Irfan Shaikh, several AIKS State Council members, DYFI State Vice President Indrajeet Gavit, DYFI former State President Vijay Patil, Chairperson of the Surgana Panchayat Samiti Suvarna Gangode and many others.

The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) warmly congratulates its fighting comrades from Nashik and welcomes them in the Delhi Rally.
