Kisan Mukti Yatra visits the Sitaram Ashram of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati
The Kisan Mukti Yatra visited the Sitaram Ashram of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati legendary leader of the Peasantry and first President of the All India Kisan Sabha. He fought against British Imperialism and Feudal Landlordism. He espoused the cause of unity of the agricultural workers and peasantry. While many leaders of the Indian National Congress was against land struggles and abolition of zamindari system he took a strong position and called for abolition of zamindari system. He also was a votary for the red flag of the toiling Peasantry to be the flag of the Kisan Sabha. He started a printing press and published a paper called Hunkaar. (The photos of the ashram and his memorial as well as ruins of the printing press and list of publications are included). His writings on the Peasantry are pioneering works and helped shaping the the direction of the Kisan Movement. The Ashram was a centre where the leaders of the freedom movement often visited.
Hannan Mollah General Secretary of AIKS, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, veteran leader of Kisan Sabha and Left Movement, Vijoo Krishnan AIKS Joint Secretary, Rajaram Singh General Secretary AIKMS, Dr.Sunilam NAPM, Avik Saha Convenor Jai Kisan Andolan and others paid floral tributes to Swami Sahajanand and Com.Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi who worked with Swami Sahajanand addressed the gathering.
