Organisers of ‘March to Parliament’ pledge to dethrone Modi govt in 2019
Ahead of the September 5 joint “March to Parliament” and national rally of peasants and workers organised here by Left-leaning organisations, the organisers on Friday doffed their apolitical mask, pledging commitment to dethrone the Narendra Modi government in the 2019 General Election.
Top leaders of Centre for Trade Unions (CITU), All India Kisan Sabha ( AIKS) and All Indian Agricultural Workers Union ( AIAWU) — organisers of the event — jointly claimed that the show of strength by workers and peasants would set in motion a countrywide agitation against the Union Government.
“We have decided to launch more militant struggles on common issues,” they said.
“The workers and peasants will also campaign against the BJP in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh ruled by the BJP and which will be going for assembly polls towards the end of the year,” they added.
So far the organisers had maintained reserve with regard to their political objective.
Markedly, they were upfront revealing their hands in being involved in catalysing public opinion against the BJP to help their parent Left parties, and other political outfits ideologically opposed to the saffron party.
Former CPI(M) MP and AIKS general secretary Hannan Mollah said the proposed “Mazdoor Kisan Sangarsh Rally” will commence with a “March to Parliament” from Ramlila Grounds here and terminate near Parliament for a public meeting.
The rally is also being supported by eminent people in different fields like economists, artists, and human rights activists, Mollah added.
Another Left MP and CITU general secretary Tapan Sen and AIAWU president S Thirunavukkarasu said workers and peasants have for the first time joined forces against the government.
