Kisan Sabha to hold march by farmers – The Hindu
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will organise a farmers’ march from Nasik to Mumbai and gherao the Assembly building here on March 6.
Ashok Dhawale, president of the AIKS, said, “Around 1,753 farmers committed suicides despite the State government announcing a loan waiver. The scheme has failed and it has only worsened the situation of farmers. We have decided to launch this agitation against the government for being insensitive.”
“Around one lakh farmers will gherao the Assembly until their demands are fulfilled,” said Ajit Nawale, State secretary of the AIKS. The demands include transferring forest land to farmers, complete loan waiver, absolute implementation of the Forest Rights Act, compensation of ₹40,000 per acre to farmers whose crop has been affected by pink bollworm pest and no more forced land acquisition from farmers for industrial projects. Mr. Nawale said, “We want answers from the government.”
