Fadnavis Govt Allegedly Filed Cases Against Organisers of Farmers’ Protest March; the AIKS claimed that the government is trying to stop the march.
Ahead of the farmers’ protest in Maharashtra, the Devendra Fadnavis-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has allegedly lodged cases against All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) state general secretary Dr Ajit Rawale. The AIKS alleged that the government is attempting to arrest Rawale.
In a press release, the AIKS — which is organising the march — said that the government is trying to repress the march beginning from Nashik on February 20 and is expected to arrive at Azad Maidan, Mumbai on February 27.
The primary demands of the farmers include immediate relief in the grim drought situation, issues of irrigation, land rights, complete liberation from debt, MSP at one and a half times the full cost of production, a pro-farmer crop insurance scheme, increased pension, ration and food security.
The AIKS had claimed that the number of farmers taking part in the upcoming march will be double compared to March last year. The Left organisation added that farmers from 23 districts of Maharashtra will take part in the protest march against the Modi government at Centre and Fadnavis government in the state.
The farmers have underlined that the government have not fulfilled the promises that it had made last year to 40,000 farmers who had marched from Nashik to Mumbai.
