On 13 August 2022, the #AIKS was restarted in Murbad tehsil of Thane district after seven decades, with an impressive Land Rights Convention. It was attended by over 250 peasant women and men, from all castes and communities, including #Adivasis, #Dalits, #OBCs and #Marathas.
It was in 1943-44 that the legendary AIKS leaders Shamrao and #GodavariParulekar first began AIKS work in the Murbad, Kalyan and Shahapur tehsils of South Thane district. The first conference of the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha was also held at Titwala in this area on 7 January 1945. But with the start of the glorious Warli Adivasi Revolt in the Talasari, Dahanu and Palghar tehsils of North Thane district, AIKS work in South Thane district, except in Shahapur, declined.
With new activists who are about to be relieved from the #SFI taking the lead, the AIKS was restarted in Murbad with this Land Rights Convention.
The convention was presided over by AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale and was inaugurated by #CITU State Secretary Vinod Nikole เคตเคฟเคจเฅ‹เคฆ เคจเคฟเค•เฅ‹เคฒ , MLA. AIKS State Council members from Thane-Palghar and Raigad districts Kiran Gahala, Bharat Walamba, Ramchandra Mhatre and Sanjay Thakur, and AIDWA State Secretary Prachi Hatiwlekar placed various aspects of the land question and the PDS issue.
The welcome speech was by P K Lali, and the introductory speech was by Dr Kavita Vare. Some resolutions on local land issues were adopted. A 25-member AIKS Murbad Tehsil Committee, with Dinesh Jadhav as President and Dr Kavita Vare as Secretary, was elected. The booklet published by the AIKS Maharashtra State Council, ‘Woh Subah Kabhi to Aayegi – Songs of Struggle’ sold well.
Dr Kavita Vare, currently an SFI CEC Member, who had just won her Ph.D. from the Mumbai University on the topic “Changing Pattern of Land Holding and its Impact on Politics in Raigad District”, was felicitated on this occasion.
