Comandante Fidel Castro

The All India Kisan Sabha dips its red banner in honour of Comandante Fidel Castro, who passed away on 25th November, 2016. Ever inspiring leader of the Cuban Revolution and beacon of struggle against imperialism he was a true internationalist who built solidarity with anti-colonial movements in different parts of the world. The 82 revolutionaries under his leadership achieved the impossible and under a groundswell of public support overthrew the US backed dictatorship. Cuba under his leadership could decisively break the chains of neo-colonialism and servitude.

Within few months in fulfillment of the Moncada Programme the Agrarian Reform Act came into effect. Land was ceded to tenant farmers, sharecroppers and squatters. Land and properties, oil refineries and sugar refineries mostly under control of American companies were all nationalised. The agricultural transformation achieved by Cuba under his guidance is commendable. Cuba was also transformed into a society that made rapid strides in literacy, universal education and health care. From a society that depended on slave labour it was made free of all forms of racial discrimination. It also sent its doctors to the most backward and inaccessible regions of Latin America and Africa. Cuba actively helped the struggle against colonialism, imperialism and apartheid regime in Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. It stood by the nations that stood opposed to imperialist forces and came to play a decisive role in the Non Aligned Movement. Cuba overcame a brutal economic blockade of the most inhuman nature and successfully defied predictions of imminent doom after the Soviet collapse.

Comandante Fidel Castro shall continue to inspire generations to come in their fight against imperialism, inequalities and oppression. All India Kisan Sabha extends condolences to the Cuban people and all who held him dear.
