MAHAPADAV STRUGGLE BY 30,000 PEOPLE LED BY CPI(M) IN THANE-PALGHAR DISTRICTS ENTERS SECOND DAY

The Mahapadav (Sit-in) struggle by over 30,000 people led by the CPI(M) in six of the seven tehsil centres – Shahapur, Wada, Palghar, Vikramgad, Jawhar, Dahanu and Talasari – of Thane-Palghar districts in Maharashtra entered its second day today. Leaders, activists and members of the AIKS, CITU, AIDWA, DYFI and SFI are taking part in the struggle in large numbers.

Thousands of people in each place cooked their lunch and dinner and slept outside the SDO/Tehsil offices. They held various kinds of cultural programmes of song and dance.

The people are determined to win their burning local demands at all costs and have resolved to continue the struggle until their demands are conceded in writing by government officials with a time frame for their implementation.

Late last night, the Tahsildar of Talasari tehsil in Palghar district conceded all the local demands in writing, with a time frame for their implementation. Here the struggle ended in a victory and was called off with an enthusiastic public meeting.

In the other six tehsils, government officials are holding talks with CPI(M) local leaders under the continuing pressure of thousands of agitators and it is likely that the local demands will be conceded in writing late tonight or tomorrow.

The struggle is being well covered in most sections of the print, electronic and social media.

CPI(M) central committee member and AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale and CPI(M) state secretariat member and AIKS state vice president Barkya Mangat are visiting all seven centres of the struggle for the last two days, addressing the agitators and guiding the local leadership.
