Hannan Mollah speaking at the Kisan Sansad

Comrade Hannan Mollah, General Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha, spoke at the Kisan Sansad (Farmers’ Parliament) in Delhi on 20 November 2017 about the adverse effects of neoliberal policies on the farmers of India. Over 4 lakh farmers have committed suicide as a result of these policies. He stated two main reasons for farmer suicides. One is that the sale prices of crops are not increasing; there is no profit, only losses. The second reason is debt – 75% of farmers’ loans are from private banks and they are unable to repay the loans. Hannan Mollah goes on to talk about how Narendra Modi has destroyed the lives of the farmers through his incompetence.
