Farm loan waiver: 2.41 lakh applications not Aadhar-linked – The Hindu

Nearly 2.41 lakh of the 56.58 lakh application forms submitted till date by farmers seeking loan waivers are not linked to Aadhaar numbers, which could pose a problem while extending scheme benefits to these applicants.

The development, which was discussed at a cabinet sub-committee meeting on Tuesday, saw State government officers being tasked with getting these farmers to link their Aadhaar numbers with their applications. A senior minister said, “The process of linking cards with their applications will be repeated. If farmers don’t have Aadhaar numbers, they will be asked to register for one.”

State Transport Minister Divakar Raote said the government is yet to receive a list of farmers with loans outstanding from District Central Co-operative Banks. “The information will be with us in a few days. We have received information from all other banks.”

Earlier in the day, a joint farmer convention in Jalgoan on Tuesday called for massive rallies in every district and tehsil centre on October 20, on which Balipratipada falls.

Ashok Dhawale, national joint secretary, All India Kisan Sabha, said the rallies will press for cases under IPC sections 302 (murder), 306 (abetment to suicide) and 420 (cheating) against BJP ministers for the rise in farmer suicides.
