Ban Gaurakshaks, allow cattle trade; demands Kisan Sabha

New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) on Saturday demanded an immediate ban on ‘Gaurakshaks’, in the wake of killings and attacks unleashed by them including that of the recent murder of Ummer Khan in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.Speaking to reporters here after visiting Mr Khan’s family and senior police officers, in Bharatpur district, the Kisan Sabha delegation alleged that authorities in State and Central Governments are hand in glove with criminals.“Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had criticised gaurakshaks and described them as ‘anti-social elements’, so what is stopping the Central and state governments from banning this group?” asked Dr Ashok Dhawale, the Kisan Sabha president and former MP Hannan Mollah.Mr Khan, a dairy farmer from Bharatpur’s Ghatmika village was murdered on November 10 in Alwar allegedly by gaurakshaks, and the police later claimed that Mr Khan and two others were smuggling cows. The postmortem report contradicted claims by police and confirmed that the death occurred due to two bullet injuries, Dr Dhawale said. The Kisan Sabha alleged that there is a pattern in every killing, citing the case of Pehlu Khan, who was killed in Alwar district in April by gaurakshaks, and real culprits were left scot-free by the police and state governments in all the cases. The perpetrators of Mr Khan’s murder had tried to misguide the public that it was an accidental death, Dr hawale pointed out that the murder happened at Gahankar village in Bharatpur distrtict and the vehicle was found at Govindgarh. But the body was found 15 KM away on railway tracks in Ramgarh. The Ghaatmika village, where Mr Khan belongs to, has 450 houses in which 400 are Muslim families, the Kisan Sabha said.“The village has around 1000 cows apart from buffalos and their main income is from dairy farming. Their main source of income is from selling milk. But after this incident people are afraid to move out of the village.”But the police is portraying the villagers as criminals and cow smugglers just as the Britishers did with particular tribes naming them criminals. When we met Superintendent of Police, he said that the police made it a case of cow smuggling since there was no tax receipt from the cattle market, Dr Dhawale said.“Purchasing and selling cows are not legally banned in Rajasthan by any Act. But when villagers sell and purchase cows, Alwar police register a case of cow smuggling against the victims. It shows the prejudiced mindset of the police and administration”, alleged Dr. Dhawale. The Kisan Sabha said it will hold agitation in Delhi as well as in different parts of Rajasthan to demand the immediate arrest of all the culprits responsible for the murder of Ummer Khan, Rs. One crore as compensation to the victims family, Institute a judicial enquiry into Mr Khan’s murder case, the Government must ensure cattle trade and those governments that ban slaughter must amend cow protection act to purchase unproductive animals paying market rate.UNI KNA SHK 1958.
