AIKS to organize demo in front of ration shops

Puducherry, Nov 18 (UNI) All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) members would hold demonstrations in front of 2,000 Ration Shops across Tamil Nadu from December 3 to 10 to press their demands, AIKS General Secretary P Shanmugham said today.
In a statement here, Mr Shanmugham said that the farmers in Tamil Nadu had begun farming works late this year since the monsoon started late and water for irrigation in the Cauvery delta districts was released on October 2 and cooperative banks are refusing to release crop loans to the farmers.
In this backdrop, the announcement of the Tamil Nadu government that the Crop Insurance Premium for this year should be remitted on November 30 cannot be accepted. The time should be extended till December 15, he demanded and said all farmers should be provided with crop loan this year.
Detailing the plight of the ration shops in Tamil Nadu, Mr Shanmugham demanded the immediate streamlining of the PDS. For this, the AIKS would organize agitation in front of 2000 ration shops, he said.
