Punjab AIKS Meet Resolves to Mobilise Thousands of Peasants on August 9 and September 5

On July 12 the Punjab State Kisan Sabha held an extended state council meeting at Ludhiana. It was held to give momentum to the AIKS signature campaign and the preparations for the August 9 countrywide Jail Bharo struggle as well as the September 5 nationwide Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh Rally in Delhi. It was attended by over 125 leading AIKS activists from all the districts.

The extended meeting was presided over by state vice president Dharampal Seal and state general secretary Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon made the introductory remarks. It was then addressed by AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale, who analysed various aspects of the deep agrarian crisis in the country with special emphasis on the anti-peasant, pro-corporate, neo-liberal policies and the communal and casteist thrust of the Modi-led BJP-RSS regime. The meeting ended in enthusiasm by resolving to work to mobilise thousands of farmers for the grand success of both these calls for struggle. One lakh leaflets have been published jointly by the AIKS, CITU and AIAWU in Punjab for propagating these struggles.
